Day 20- Return of the Rudd
Gather round childrens. Sitting comfortably? Relaxed and comfortably? Good. Then I'll begin.
Once upon a time there was a kid called Phillip Adams. He had a tough upbringing, became an adman, then a film producer, then a writer and broadcaster. His 'little wireless program' is the radio equivalent of a peer-reviewed journal- its considered. It takes its time. He's not one to break a big news story as it happens (as Jonathon Holmes, incorrectly, tried to lampoon on MediaWatch).
But last night Adams scooped everyone, by introducing a friend of his- a bloke who also had a rough childhood, and recently has had a rough middle age. And his friend, known to us as the Krudd, is back on deck. Sounding annoying folksy but reminiscent of someone we got to know in 2007. He spoke of his health, his party, and how he thinks Tony Abbott is a bad choice.
Next day, the Krudd hopped behind a lectern, infront of two Australian flags, to repeat the same. My government wasn't perfect- none is. But that doesn't mean you should be switching to that wingnut fucktard (authors emphasis, but that was the gist). He looked good. he sounded, and seemed... prime ministerial.
And what does it all mean? It's near impossible to tell. On the hand, it provides a kick for Gillard, a settling of the chatter, another circuit break. On the other, it provides confusion (hey- I remember that bloke! And you know what? I used to like him! Why did I stop liking him? I forget!). Dennis Shanahan, against all the odds (what ails you, sir? What ails you?), tried to spin it negative. Labor folk seem happy. Who knows? Throw out the polls, throw out the form guide. The only thing we can be sure of is that Abbott's health plan is not the story of the day. Not close.
